Develops personal water safety and basic swimming skills in students of all ages.  Swimmers develop a high level of comfort in the water by practicing safe water habits, engaging in underwater exploration, and learning how to swim to safety and exit if they fall into a body of water. Children that are in Kindergarten may enroll in the youth Swim Basics instead of the preschool classes.

This level is for children that can float unassisted, but are learning to swim longer distances of 10-15 yards independently.

Water Stamina is the 3rd stage in Swim Basics.  In Water Stamina, students learn how to swim safely from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water.  This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

Skills taught in Water Stamina:

  • Submerge – retrieve object in chest-deep water
  • Swim on front – 15yds.
  • Water exit – independently
  • Jump, swim, turn, swim, grab – 10yds.
  • Swim on back – 15yds.
  • Roll
  • Tread Water – 1 min. & exit
  • Swim, float, swim – 25 yds.
Each group consists of min 3 – max 8 participants.
