Parent/Child Swim Lessons
Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun & confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.
*At the Y, we know families take a variety of forms. We define parent to broadly include all adults with primary responsibility for raising children.
Level A: Water Discovery
This level is ideal for children ages 6mon+ that are still learning to follow verbal cues and cannot jump on land quite yet.
Parents* accompany child in Stage A, which introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment through exploration and encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water.
Skills taught in Water Exploration:
- Blow bubbles – on surface, assisted
- Front tow – chin in water, assisted
- Water exit – parent & child together
- Water entry – parent & child together
- Back float – assisted, head on shoulder
- Roll – assisted
- Front float – chin in water, assisted
- Back tow – assisted, head on shoulder
- Wall grab – assisted

Level B: Water Exploration
This level is for children that are able to follow verbal cues and walk on land, but still need an adult in the water with them to feel comfortable.
In Stage B, parents* work with their child to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatics skills.
Skills taught in Water Exploration:
- Blow bubbles – mouth & nose submerged, assisted
- Front tow – blow bubbles, assisted
- Water exit – assisted
- Water entry – assisted
- Back float – assisted, head on shoulder
- Roll – assisted
- Front float – blow bubbles, assisted
- Back tow – assisted, head on shoulder
- Monkey crawl – assisted, on edge, 5ft.

Parent/Child (18 months - 3 years)
Ages 18 months- 3 years. Parent/child class that introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.
Accompanied by a parent*, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. Skills include exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety.

Accompanied by a parent*, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. This level class is recommended for toddlers that are able to walk.
